International Production Design Week:
una nuova iniziativa per celebrare l'arte della scenografia
Dopo il significativo successo del primo Production Designers Gathering, che si è svolto a ottobre 2022 a Spetses, in Grecia, durante il quale gli scenografi hanno avuto l'opportunità di incontrarsi, scambiare idee e discutere di metodi e approcci di lavoro, il Production Designers Collective sta organizzando una settimana di eventi dedicati alla scenografia che si svolgerà in tutto il mondo dal 20 al 29 ottobre 2023.
Fondamentali professionisti del dietro le quinte, gli scenografi sono il fulcro delle storie che vengono raccontate sul palco e sullo schermo: sviluppando e manifestando il concetto visivo e l'aspetto di un progetto, elevano l'intenzione iniziale di un regista per garantire un'estetica coesa e vibrante che si traduce al pubblico attraverso lo schermo.
L'International Production Design Week sarà l'occasione per far luce sulla professione e i suoi professionisti. La settimana sarà caratterizzata da un programma diversificato di eventi in persona e virtuali tra cui panel, workshop, masterclass, proiezioni, incontri e appuntamenti vari. Il programma è aperto a registi, collaboratori del settore e al pubblico in generale.
Gli eventi si concentreranno sui temi della creatività, della ricerca e dell’ispirazione, sui metodi di progettazione sostenibile, sugli strumenti digitali e sulle tecnologie più innovative, su collaborazione, leadership, tutoraggio, rappresentanza e inclusione.
Concepita come un evento biennale, l'International Production Design Week è organizzata in collaborazione con guild e associazioni di scenografi negli Stati Uniti, in Europa, Sud America, Asia e Australia. L'elenco degli affiliati è in costante crescita; i 21 soci fondatori dell'iniziativa includono ASC in Italia, Art Directors Guild e United Scenic Artists negli Stati Uniti, The European Federation of Production and Costume Design (Artscenico), Australian Production Design Guild, Brazilian Art Directors (BRADA ), la Turkish Art Directors Association e la Japanese Film and Television Art Directors Association.
Tra i vari collaboratori che si sono uniti all’iniziativa si annoverano corsi di scenografia e scuole di cinema, organizzazioni cinematografiche e sale di proiezione, buyer del settore e media.
L'iniziativa è creata dal Production Designers Collettive, un gruppo di oltre 1200 colleghi che si dedicano al sostegno reciproco attraverso la condivisione di esperienze e conoscenze.
La scenografa Inbal Weinberg (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) – fondatrice del Collective insieme a Kalina Ivanov (Lovecraft Country) – ha dichiarato che «L’International Production Design Week sarà un'opportunità per mettere in luce l'immenso lavoro creativo svolto dagli scenografi dietro le quinte e il loro contributo essenziale al racconto delle storie sullo schermo».

A New Initiative To to Celebrate the Craft of Production Design
Following the significant success of the first-ever international Gathering for production designers which took place last October in Spetses, Greece where designers had the meaningful opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and discuss techniques, the Production Designers Collective is now coordinating an international week of production design events which will take place worldwide from October 20th-29th
The ultimate behind-the-scenes workers, production designers are at the heart of the stories told on stage and screen–by developing and manifesting the visual concept and look of a project, these artists elevate the initial intention of a director in order to ensure a cohesive and vibrant aesthetic that translates to audiences through the screen.
International Production Design Week will be an opportunity to shine a light on the craft and its practitioners. The week will feature a diverse program of in-person and virtual events including panels, workshops, masterclasses, screenings, meetups and receptions. The program is open to filmmakers, industry collaborators, and the general public.
Events will focus on themes of Creativity, Research and Inspiration, Sustainable Design Methods, Digital Tools and Emerging Technologies, Collaboration, Leadership, Mentorship, Representation and Inclusion.
Envisioned as a biennial event, International Production Design Week is organized in collaboration with production design guilds and associations in the USA, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia. While the list of affiliates is constantly growing, the initiative’s 21 founding partners include ASC, in Italy, the Art Directors Guild and United Scenic Artists in the USA, The European Federation of Production and Costume Design (Artscenico), the Australian Production Design Guild, Brazilian Art Directors (BRADA), the Turkish Art Directors Association and the Japanese Film and Television Art Directors Association.
Other collaborators will include production design educational programs and film schools, film organizations and screening rooms, industry vendors and media outlets.
The initiative is created by the Production Designers Collective, a group of over 1200 colleagues dedicated to mutual support through sharing knowledge, encouragement and experience.
